We
will hold the next Byway Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday,
November 5th at the Hopkinton Town Hall (another historic Byway site).
At the meeting, we will finalize the Vision Statement for the Currier

Draft Vision Statement Prepared
At
the meeting on September 22nd in Webster, the Currier and Ives
Scenic Byway Committee discussed the Byway's intrinsic values and
the Committee's desires for the future. Together, the group formed a
draft vision statement:
"The Currier and Ives Scenic and Cultural Byway
will serve as an enduring common link among the communities of Henniker,
Hopkinton, Webster, and Salisbury.
The communities are committed to both preserving and enhancing the Byway's
unique scenic, historical, cultural, natural, and recreational qualities. The Byway
represents a traditional New England
experience from its country roads and scenic vistas to its vibrant historical
villages. Through a balance of preservation and sensitive economic development
that respects the natural features of the area, the Byway will be promoted as a
treasured resource for current and future generations of residents and visitors
alike."
At
the next Byway Committee meeting, we will finalize this statement,
making any changes the Committee feels are needed. The Vision Statement
forms the core of the Corridor Management Plan, and guides goals and
objectives that will lay out an action plan for the future of the Byway.

Committee Representatives Drive the Byway
On
Thursday, October 15th, representatives from each of the Byway towns
met and drove to significant sites along the route to collect photos
for the Byway Inventory. Karen Sheldon (Salisbury), Sue Rauth
(Webster), Christine Hamm (Hopkinton), and Kate Bartlet (Henniker)
joined Vanessa Bittermann to share their knowledge of local history,
culture, and natural resources. Photos and information collected during
the drive will be added to the Byway Inventory, a list of sites
embodying the Currier and Ives Trail's intrinsic qualities. The
Inventory will form part of the Corridor Management Plan to document
key sites and existing local assets.

million in 2009. New Hampshire received a total of $414,200 this round.

2010. The letters are non-binding, but required if the group plans to
submit an application in the next year. All projects are funded through
a reimbursement process, and the local group or municipality must
provide a 20% match. The application process is described at www.bywaysonline.org, where applications are filed electronically.
