Open Space Plans CNHRPC received funding through the CTAP program to assist the towns of Pembroke and Dunbarton in developing open space plans for their communities. These plans identify prioritized areas for conservation and list recommendations for achieving conservation goals in the future. Using geographic information systems (GIS), each committee completed a weighted co-occurrence mapping exercise to identify where high value natural resources occur. With the results, the committees delineated a "green infrastructure" in their town. The green infrastructure is an interconnected area that, if protected from disturbance, should ensure that the services provided to the town's residents will continue indefinitely, even if the rest of the town were to be developed. Towns throughout the CTAP region have been completing similar open space plans including green infrastructure identification, as part of a region-wide strategy to address conservation issues relating to the impacts of I-93 expansion.
